Who we are
ACT grew out of a successful prison outreach project led by volunteers from St Aldates Church. As more and more people began arriving at the church on release, it became clear a new response was needed.
This started small, through shared meals, groups and gatherings. ‘Aldates Community Transformation Initiatives’ grew steadily until it became the charity ACT in 2011. ACT’s staff and volunteers include many with lived experience of homelessness or the criminal justice system. Together, we form a community of support for people in prison, sleeping rough or on a journey towards independent living. Our relational, responsive model focuses on offering:
A community
Meals, gatherings and celebrations: people who’ve experienced exclusion are welcomed into the heart of a warm community.
A home
After tough times on the streets or in prison, our supported houses give people the stability and space to get back on track.
A mentor
Being championed by a skilled mentor can make all the difference to someone’s ability to overcome challenges.
A new lease of life
A sense of purpose and belonging releases people to nurture their talents – with brilliant and beautiful results.
