Outreach and mentoring

Led by Rob Rogers, our outreach and mentoring team includes people with firsthand experience of what it’s like to be homeless or in prison. We:

  • Go out regularly on to Oxford’s streets and into its bail hostels (or approved premises)

  • Meet people at the gate when they leave prison

  • Welcome people to a weekly Monday evening dinner and monthly community meal

  • Match people with a trained mentor to help them set goals, build skills and release their potential

Street outreach

Year-round, our outreach team goes out on to the streets and into local approved premises (APs) to get to know people new to the city.

Then we invite them to come for a meal and connect with ACT’s wider team and specialist partners.

1:1 mentoring

Mentees meet with their mentor for 90 minutes a week. Each journey is shaped around the individual’s needs and strengths. That might mean a focus on self-care, budgeting or leadership skills, for example.

This is where exciting new ventures start to emerge, like Brendan’s songwriting or Eddy’s new business.

Monday evening dinner and the monthly community meal

Every week on a Monday evening, and on the first Sunday of each month, we offer filling hot meals, friendship and support to people who are street homeless or vulnerably housed.

Weekly dinner: Mondays at 6.30pm (St Aldates Church Centre)

Monthly community meal: First Sunday of the month at 2pm (St Aldates Church Centre)
